Gerlach is German and rhymes with bear-lock. I was born and raised in the Haight Ashbury of San Francisco, moved to Berkeley for college and grad school, with an MA in History of Religion from the Graduate Theological Union of Berkeley, and now teach Philosophy and the history of human thought at Berkeley City College. I have taught Intro Philosophy, Ethics, Logic, Asian Philosophy, Greek Philosophy, Modern European Philosophy and Social & Political Philosophy there for the past several years, and it has been a joy.

Invasion of the Russian Grizzled Fish

Speaking of Russian electronic invasions, after taking a trip to the southern Slavic countries this last year I have been fascinated with the Slavic “Hard Bass” music coming from there and Russia, rave music that sounds very similar to hard trance from Germany, Britain and America that was popular in the late 90s.  In the last year, Reddit has shared some of these videos of track-suited enthusiasts with the tagline, “Meanwhile, in Russia…”  With a Slavic accent, “bass” is pronounced like the fish, not the lower range of musical tones.  Thus, they seem to continuously call upon a grizzled fish that likes to party.  Here is one of the mixes below.  If it happens to contain anything offensive in Russian, my unintentional apologies!
